Joe Irvin, communications manager for the California Fuel Cell Partnership, is scheduled to speak at the Technology and Society Committee luncheon, 11:45 a.m., Aug. 7, at the Golden Wok, 895 Villa St., Mountain View.

Inaugural Air Expo at Moffett Field

The inaugural Air Expo is scheduled 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Aug. 11 and 12, at NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View.

The exposition will feature aerial performers, such as the U.S. Air Force A-10 “Top Gun” team, and more than 30 aircraft, including the F-117 Stealth Fighter.

The historic Hangar One is slated to hold the Technology Pavilion, a showcase of new and emerging technologies in aeronautics and information technology.

Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-10. Children under 4 are free.

Entrepreneurs courses at the YWCA

The YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula’s Women Entrepreneurs Program has planned two courses for women and men interested in starting their own businesses.

“Thinking of Becoming an Entrepreneur?” a three-session course that explores the realities of starting a business, is slated 6-9 p.m., Thursdays, beginning Sept. 6. The cost is $49.

“Business Academy: How to Start Your Own Business,” a 10-week course for entrepreneurs ready to formulate or amend their business plans, is scheduled 6-9 p.m., Thursdays, beginning Sept. 27.

The cost is $150, including the textbook.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
