Yasmin Pourmand and Shawn Braun have announced their engagement to be married Oct. 27 in Monterey.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Dean and Elizabeth Pourmand of Los Altos Hills. She graduated from Los Altos High School, earned an undergraduate degree in neurobiology and English from the University of California at Berkeley, and an international MBA from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management. She is employed at PeopleSoft.

The groom-to-be is the son of the late Gordon and Maureen Braun of Los Altos. He graduated from Los Altos High School and earned an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley in neurobiology. He is employed at PeopleSoft. The couple plan to live in Berkeley.

Middlehurst, Rotbert

Faye Middlehurst and Craig Rotbert were married Sept. 30 in Carmel.

The bride is the daughter of Richard and Brenda Middlehurst of Fremont.

She received a degree in business administration from McMaster University, Ontario, Canada, and is employed at Hewlett-Packard.

The groom is the son of Murray and Deborah Rotbert of Los Altos.

He graduated from Homestead High School and received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from San Jose State University.

He is employed at San Disk Corporation in Sunnyvale.

The couple live in Los Gatos.

Blanding, Kemple

Kathleen Kemple and Eric Blanding were married April 14 in Seattle.

A reception followed at the Columbia Tower Club.

The bride is the daughter of John and Barbara Kemple of Sammamish, Wash.

The bride graduated from Newport High School in Bellevue, and Whitman College where she received a bachelor’s degree in history.

She is employed as a first-grade teacher in Issaquah, Wash.

The groom is the son of Richard and Linda Blanding of Los Altos.

The groom graduated from Los Altos High School and Whitman College with a bachelor’s degrees in geology and physics.

He is employed as a software engineer with Adobe Systems, Inc.

The couple lives in Seattle.

Allin, Blackwell

Beth Blackwell and Dana Allin were married Dec. 16, 2000 at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. A reception followed at the Palo Alto Hills Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of Ed and Jeanne Blackwell of Mountain View. She graduated from Mountain View High School and Westmont College in Santa Barbara, where she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She is employed at Lakewood First Presbyterian Church in Long Beach as a pastoral assistant.

The groom is the son of Tom and Karen Allin of Santa Barbara. He graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology. He is employed as pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church in Lakewood.

The bride and groom both received their master of divinity degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary in June.The couple lives in Long Beach.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
