By Credit agency gives city top credit rating

Standard & Poor’s, one of the nation’s top credit rating agencies, awarded the city of Mountain View a AAA credit rating based on the city’s tax base, financial track record, low debt burden and property values.

The AAA rating is the top credit rating. Mountain View is one of only three cities in California to earn a AAA rating.

The AAA rating is expected to the lower fees and costs Mountain View pays on its long-term debt and will save the city approximately $100,000 on the Civic Center debt refinancing currently underway, according to Robert Locke of the city’s finance and administrative services.

Moffett cleanup plans under review

Mountain View

The U.S. Department of the Navy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board are asking for public input on a cleanup plan proposed for the Eastern Diked Marsh and stormwater retention pond at Moffett Federal Airfield in Mountain View.

The plan is available for 30-day public review and comment until Aug. 22. The Navy is scheduled to hold a public meeting to present an overview and record public comments.

The cleanup area, Site 25, receives runoff from approximately 1-square mile of a predominately paved industrial area.

Contamination of the site occurred prior to 1991.

Investigations suggest that chemicals in sediments at the site may pose a human health or ecological risk.

A copy of the proposed cleanup plan is available at the Mountain View Public Library, 585 Franklin St.
