By Rec Dept. offers Marine World trip
Members of the Los Altos Recreation Department are offering a summer trip Aug. 15 to Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo. This trip is open to students entering grades 7-10.
Six Flags Marine World offers an array of wildlife and wild rides, including some of the top coasters in Northern California, such as the new Vertical Velocity or Medusa. Trip cost is $50.
Those wishing to register may do so at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., by Aug. 10. The bus departs from Hillview Community Center at 8 a.m. and returns at 8 p.m.

History museum touts gizmos, ice cream
The Los Altos History Museum, in partnership with the Museum of American Heritage in Palo Alto, is holding a “Gee Whiz - Gizmos! What Is It? Day,” scheduled 1-3:30 p.m., Aug. 5.
Gizmos and gadgets that were once in common use will be demonstrated to complement the museum’s current “Make It Move” changing exhibit. Bring your own amazing gadgets and inventions to share.
A program is included in the regular admission: members and visitors under 18, free; visitors 19 and over, $3.
The museum also is holding “Music & Memories: Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social” on Aug. 18, its third annual hand-churned ice cream social with games, toys and fun for all. This event is scheduled 2-4 p.m., with free admission on Aug. 18. The museum is located at 51 S. San Antonio Road, behind the Los Altos library.

Champagne Opera Gala 2001
The South Peninsula Chapter of the San Francisco Opera Guild will hold a Champagne Opera Gala at 7 p.m., Aug. 5, at the Woodside Village Church, 3154 Woodside Road, Woodside.
