It’s called the Santa Clara County Women’s Golf Championship, but this year’s event might as well have been titled the Foothill College Alumna Tournament.
Three of the top four finishers at the annual competition, held July 9 and 10 at San Jose Country Club, played for the women’s golf team at Foothill.
This includes winner Trudi Souza, an all-state performer for the Owls in 1998. Souza posted a two-day score of 157 to win by 10 strokes. She shot 78 the final day, highlighted by a 50-foot putt for par on the 18th hole.
Mima Suwa, who helped Foothill take third in the state in 1997, finished second with 167.
AnnMarie Lee, also part of the Owls’ 1998 team, placed fourth with 170. Lee was one of three players from Mountain View’s Shoreline Golf Links to finish among the top 10; Patti Hayes finished sixth (173) and Sissy Nichols was seventh (175).
Vicencio makes quarters
Eloise Vicencio, a member of the St. Francis High girls golf team, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the California Junior Girls State Championship, played last week at Monterey Peninsula Country Club.
Vicencio lost 7-5 to Tara Chappell in match play July 10 in Pebble Beach.
As a sophomore last season, Vicencio played a key role in St. Francis’ fourth-place finish in the NorCal Championships.
