There isn’t a name on the retail storefront at 261 Main St., but there soon will be, because Cooks’ Junction is back in business. After closing two months for a complete renovation, the store reopened June 26.
The remodeling of Cooks’ Junction is another example of the gradual renovating of retail establishments in downtown Los Altos.
G. L. Ross Inc. recently renovated I Fratelli Restaurant, Kahn’s buildings and finished Cooks’ Junction before starting final changes in the former Kahn’s Pharmacy for the new tenant.
“Our design-build teams are converting yesterday’s structures into venues that meet the demands of today’s high-tech clients,” contractor Gary Ross said.
Linda Janes, owner of Janus-Cooks’ Junction, said she is proud of the lighting and the vinyl floors that look like wood.
“The merchandise is basically the same, but everything is categorized and you can see it,” Janes said. “There is more open space and more walking room.”
Janes was financially responsible for this year’s renovations, the first since the store gained 500 square feet, toward the Plaza, 17 years ago.
Harry Townsend designed the store layout for Cooks’ Junction. He also renovated Janus, the other store Janes owns, into a new look that customers appreciate.
Camile,(who preferred not to give her last name), a Sunnyvale browser on Main Street, said, “The store was a mess before, and I rarely came in. Now you can find things and it has a totally different atmosphere.”
