Silicon Valley Women in Business and the Commonwealth Club are sponsoring a Pink Slip Party for women and men job-seekers and recruiters, 6-8 p.m., July 25, at Hyatt Rickey’s, 4219 El Camino Real, Palo Alto. John Epperheimer, a columnist for the San Jose Mercury News and director of the Work Path Group, is the featured speaker. Cost is $5 for pink-slippers and $20 for recruiters. All Horizons Rancho Travel Opal Awards
Maureen Jones and her travel agency, All Horizons Rancho Travel, in Los Altos, won two Opal Awards from the Australian Tourist Commission in late April. Jones won in the category of best-planned itinerary, and her agency won for best window display. The Opal Awards, presented annually by Australia’s national tourism organization, recognize excellence in marketing and promotion of Australia by U.S. “Aussie specialist” travel agents. Jones has won nine Opal Awards in the past five years.
Tips for an effective job search
“Moving Beyond Unemployment,” a four-session class led by Karen Purtich, an experienced human resources consultant, will offer a positive approach to developing your own strategy to find your next job.
The classes will meet 7-9 p.m. weekly, tonight through Aug. 1, in the Garden Room, Los Altos United Methodist Church.
Purtich, with years in the high-tech industry, will help participants write resumes, discuss interview strategies, and share resources and contacts. There is no cost, but registration is required. For more information, call Lois Prior at 948-1083.
