In a semifinal game played in pouring rain, the Santa Clara Westside Pirates sunk the Los Altos Yankees 3-0 in the District 44 Minor Tournament of Champions.
The Pirates limited the Yanks to one hit June 25 at Miller Junior High in Cupertino.
Los Altos pitcher Matt Bowden struck out 10 and allowed only two hits over five innings of work, but both hits came in the decisive third.
The Pirates started off the inning with a hit, followed by a fielder’s choice and an error, leaving two runners on base. Pirates pitcher Kenny Zuvela then delivered a two-run triple and scored on the play when the relay throw from left field was mishandled.
Zuvela and Pirates reliever Kyle Cassidy combined to allow only four Los Altos batters to reach base.
