The San Jose Symphony and a fireworks display will highlight a pre-Independence Day concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Stanford University’s Frost Amphitheater.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., with the concert at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks to follow.
The San Jose Symphony, conducted by maestro Leonid Grin, will perform works by an array of composers.
The program includes Handel’s “Musick for the Royal Fireworks,” Dvorak’s “Three Slavic Dances Op. 46, Nos. 1, 3 and 8,” Brahms’ “Hungarian Dances Nos. 5, 6, 7,” Leonard Bernstein’s “On The Town: Three Dance Episodes,” Morton Gould’s “An American Salute,” Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture” and Tchaikovsky’s “Capriccio Italien, Op. 45.”
John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” will accompany the fireworks display.
Concert-goers are invited to come early and picnic. There will also be a selection of food and beverages for sale.
Large coolers, wagons, strollers, umbrellas, barbecue grills and pets will not be allowed into Frost Amphitheater. Smoking is prohibited.
Seating is festival-style on the lawn ($28) or in general admission chairs ($30). Youths under 15 are half-price and discounts are available for students.
