Town Crier Staff Report

The Los Altos Rockies routed the Sunnyvale Southern Rockies 7-1 last week in a Little League District 44 Majors Tournament of Champions game in Santa Clara.

Los Altos scored three runs in the opening inning of the June 19 game and led 6-0 after the fifth. Los Altos had twice as many hits (8-4) as Sunnyvale, which committed five errors.

In other Majors action, the Mountain View Red Sox beat Tri-Cities 5-3 last Thursday in a semifinal game.

Jake Dewitt earned the win for Mountain View, allowing just one hit in three innings of work. He was helped by solid defense from his teammates, who did not make an error.

The host Red Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and led 5-0 going into the sixth and final inning.

Turning to the Minors TOC, the Mountain View Giants won a 12-10 slugfest against the host Santa Clara Homestead A’s last Thursday.

The Giants scored seven runs in the third to go up 9-5, but the A’s didn’t give up. Santa Clara tallied five runs in the fourth to take a one-run lead.

The Giants rallied in the fifth to tie the game, then scored two in the seventh to win.

Sean Cervantes earned the win for Mountain View, giving up six hits and striking out seven in four innings.

Tony Rhodes went 2-for-4 for the Giants, who had eight hits in all. Rhodes and Nicholas Williamson each hit a double, while Patrick Rabuzzi and Eric Tingleff both tripled.
