The sponsors of “Glorious 4th”, Los Altos’ annual Independence Day celebration, are ready for the annual day of food, music and entertainment scheduled 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 4, at Shoup Park, 400 University Ave.

Ye Olde Towne Band will begin playing at 10:30 a.m. as residents, friends and family gather at the park.

The program will feature guest speakers, the United States Marine Corps Drill Team and tunes sung by the Sweet Adelines, a local 30 person a cappella group.

Following the program, an old-fashioned barbecue including hamburgers, cheeseburgers, gardenburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon and dessert is available for $5.

Parking is available for the general public on the street and limited parking is available by reservation for those with special needs.

The “Glorious 4th” Celebration is sponsored by American Legion Post 558, Bank of Los Altos, City of Los Altos, Kiwanis Club of Los Altos, Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, Los Altos Rotary Club, Los Altos Town Crier, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the Veterans Memorial Association of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
