Three local schools recently completed play in the Midpeninsula Tennis Patrons’ middle school tennis program.

Blach Junior High and Egan Intermediate School of Los Altos placed fourth and sixth, respectively, during the regular season, while Pinewood School of Los Altos Hills finished eighth.

The MTP league includes 11 teams from seven cities.

Blach, under coach Cindy Kane, posted a 7-3 record in league competition.

Egan, directed by Annelies Geelen, went 6-4 and Pinewood, coached by Corinne Mansourian, finished 3-7.

The top four teams qualified for the playoffs, with Blach beating Kennedy 7-2 in the game for third place on June 1. Two days earlier, Jordan defeated Fisher for the league championship.

Blach players included Bruce Herrmann, Isaac Smith, Doug Wiersig, Justin Greenberg, Kevin Conner, Brian Chang, David Wu, Matt White, Chris McKleroy, Kevin Stanek, Tim Egan, James Yeh, Prashant Rai, John Doty, Patrick McLennan, Katherine Wu, Stephanie Herrmann, Klarissa Lee, Tessa Ameri, Carolyn Whitesell, Kris Santucci, Ben Herrmann and Danny Core.

The Egan team consisted of Nick Westrum, C.J. Lion, Rod Yashani, Ryan Louie, Alex Tolchin, Michael Orton, Kimiisa Oshikogi, Bryce Hoffman, Ken Kawamura, Zach Zwartenstein, Nick Malenka, Annelies Geelen, Baubak Azadan, Angie Bustamante, Sara Pawloski, Wei-Wei Liu, Sheila Emami, Christine Russell, Julie Nirehenco, Jonathan Foulds, Matt Katsaros, Albert Hong, Tim Chu and Christina Strong.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
