Lynn Horiye last week was named the new girls varsity tennis coach at St. Francis High.
Horiye replaces Gary Dinneen, who has decided to retire after 13 seasons but will remain the boys varsity tennis coach.
Horiye has been at St. Francis for 15 years. He has coached the junior varsity girls tennis team for nine years and has served as tournament director of the SCVAL individual girls tennis tournament.
Horiye also serves as the Lancers’ varsity gymnastics coach, which he has guided to five Central Coast Section championships and 13 league titles. Two of his gymnastics teams have earned CCS Scholastic Team Championship awards, given to the team with the highest grade-point average in its sport for that particular season. Horiye was named a CCS Honor Coach for gymnastics in 1994.
“We are very fortunate to have Lynn Horiye as a member of our athletic staff,” St. Francis athletic director Steve Filios said. “He is a very involved member of our community who contributes in many ways to our school. He has been tremendously successful as a coach, but more importantly, he is a quality person who cares for each student-athlete and has a passion for education and coaching.”
Horiye is a graduate of San Mateo High and San Jose State University.
Dinneen led the girls team to the CCS finals eight times, winning four championships.
