Historic restaurant reopens after 4 years
The Wine Cellar, one of Los Gatos’ oldest restaurants and the only remaining original tenant of Old Town Shopping Center, recently reopened after a four-year closure due to upgrades at the shopping center.
The Cellar opened in 1966 after being excavated, mainly by hand, from its underground location in Old Town center. The restaurant is below what used to be University Avenue School’s auditorium.
The Cellar closed its doors in 1997 as part of the square’s renovation, which was scheduled to be a six-month project. The owners had to redesign the old floor plan in order to bring the restaurant up to current fire and ADA codes as part of the project.
The Wine Cellar is located at 50 University Avenue in Old Town Shopping center in Los Gatos.
