Run in the park
The City of Palo Alto’s 18th Annual Dog’s Best Friend 5K Run is set for 8:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Baylands Athletic Center, 1900 Geng Road. The race travels through the Baylands Nature Preserve. The event will include a post-race vendor fair and raffle with prizes from pet food, product and service providers. All registered participants will have a chance to win a Suburban Fence system, courtesy of the Invisible Fence Company. Pre-registration postmarked by Friday is $18, and includes a T-shirt. Race day registration and check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. Awards will be presented to dogs in small, medium and large divisions. For more information, call 463-4920.
Water polo signups
West Bay Water Polo is registering players for its spring/summer club season. Girls ages 11-18 and boys 13-18 can play for the club, based at Los Altos High. Practices are 4-6 p.m., Monday and Wednesday (girls) or Tuesday and Thursday (boys). Practices increase to four days a week starting June 18. Two local CYSA boys soccer teams are seeking players for the fall season. A Mountain View-Los Altos under-11 Class 3 team (for players born after July 31, 1990) will hold tryouts 4:30-6:30 p.m., Saturday. Los Altos-Mountain View Aquatics Club, certified by U.S. Swimming, is offering a summer swim program for ages 6-18. Sessions are scheduled 4-4:45 p.m. weekdays beginning June 18 at Foothill College. Sports camp signups
Registration has begun for the 16th annual Golden Eagle Summer Swim & Sports Camp, which runs June 18 through Aug. 3 at Los Altos and Mountain View highs. The camp is operated by Monica Lodge, Los Altos athletic director and physical education teacher, and Nelson Lodge, USSA licensed soccer coach and P.E. teacher. Instructional classes include swimming, water polo, softball, basketball, football, volleyball, badminton, field hockey, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, golf, wrestling and dance. Camp is for ages 5-14.
