Gunn art displayed in council chambers

An art exhibit featuring the works of Gunn High School students is to be on display in the Los Altos Hills Council Chambers, 26379 Fremont Road, Sunday to August 31. The public is invited to a reception for the artists scheduled for 2-4 p.m., Sunday, in the Council Chambers. For more information, call 941-7222.

22nd annual film festival at De Anza

De Anza College’s Film and Television Department has scheduled a showcase of this year’s student work at 7:30 p.m., June 15, in building A1, room 11. Live-action films, documentaries and animated shorts will be shown. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5. For more information, call (408) 864-8832.

Joseph B. Anderson Jr. speaks at De Anza

Joseph B. Anderson Jr., a decorated military officer and successful CEO of several companies, is scheduled to speak at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, in the conference room B of the Campus Center at De Anza College. Anderson will discuss his life, education and show a documentary about the infantry platoon he commanded in Vietnam called “The Anderson Platoon.” Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

De Anza College is located at 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
