By LAH family picnic planned for Sunday
The Los Altos Hills 2001 Spring Family Picnic, sponsored by the Town of Los Altos Hills, is scheduled 1-4 p.m., Sunday, at the Little League Field on Purissima Road, Los Altos Hills.
Complimentary dinner will be provided: 1/2 chicken; 1/4 lb. all-beef hot dogs; veggie burgers; chili; tossed salad; garlic bread; sodas, beer and wine; and ice-cream sundaes. Firefighters from the Santa Clara County Fire Fighters Local No. 1165 will cook the barbecue.
The Peninsula Banjo Band and the Gunn High School Jazz Band will provide music.
Picnic-goers are advised to bring a blanket to spread out on the grass and an umbrella for shade. There will be games, such as softball; a magician/clown who will make balloon animals; an Astro-Jump; and other entertainment. The picnic will be preceded by a guided pathway walk starting at 11 a.m. at the Little League Field.
The event is free to Los Altos Hills residents, but reservations are required to plan the dinner.

‘Exotic edibles’ at garden club
Katie Wong will discuss “Exotic Edibles for the Bay Area” at the June 12 meeting of the Garden Club of Los Altos, Creekside Room, Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave.
Wong is a member of California Rare Fruit Growers, Inc., the largest amateur fruit growing organization in the world with a primary focus on semitropical fruits and uncommon fruits and vegetables.
The program starts at approximately 1:30 p.m. and visitors may attend for a $5 fee.
Antique show in Los Altos
The 17th annual California Country Show is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 10, at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
Fifty top-quality country antique dealers from California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia will be participating.
Items for sale at the show will include furniture, quilts, folk art, hooked rugs, samplers, baskets, woodenware, stoneware, paintings, plus pewter, brass and iron.
The Los Altos History Museum, which sponsors the show, will be open during the event, and customers can also tour the museum and enjoy live folk music.
Tickets are $6, covering admission to both the show and the museum.
Salute to the musical
The Los Altos History Museum will feature a “Salute to the American Musical” 7 p.m., June 7, featuring Joseph Marchi, formerly of CaƱada College. The evening will feature recordings of show tunes and Marchi will offer anecdotes about the songs and their performers.
The event is being held in conjunction with the “Red, Hot and Blue” exhibit on the history of the American musical theater on loan from the Smithsonian at the Los Altos museum.

Magician to perform at women’s meeting
Don Sirena is scheduled to perform magic before a Federated Woman’s Club audience at the club’s last meeting of the year, set for June 6 at Michael’s at Shoreline restaurant in Mountain View. The business meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the program featuring the amateur magician at 1:15 p.m.
Past presidents of the club will be honored as well as a viewing of a scrapbook compiled in 1961 by the club on how the Los Altos Youth Center was built. It is now on display at the Los Altos History Museum.

Russian/American Fair to be held June 10
The annual Russian/American Fair will be held at the Albert L. Schultz Jewish Community Center, 655 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., June 10. The fair will be followed by a concert at 7 p.m.
The center will be transformed into a Russian village, complete with ethnic food, entertainment and activities for all ages. Clowns, face painting and a petting zoo are planned for the children.
Tickets are $5 general admission; $3 for seniors and children under 12; admission is free for children under 6.
Concert tickets are $20-$35.
