Dinner with a ‘Hart’

Al Hart, the longtime “voice” of KCBS radio, is the honorary chairman of the Charlie Wedemeyer Celebration of Hope Dinner. Set for May 10 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, the dinner honors six Bay Area high school athletes who will receive $30,000 worth of scholarships from the Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach for overcoming adversities. CWFO is a nonprofit organization aimed at fighting ALS. Hart, who hosted KCBS’ morning news from 1966-2000, retired last year to spend time with his wife, who was diagnosed with ALS. Several sports celebrities are expected to attend the event, including 49ers great Ronnie Lott and Sharks favorite Tony Granato. For more information, logon to www.cwfo.org.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
