The likes of movie legend Jane Russell, along with Miss California and Miss Los Altos, Rita Ng, will be present at the “Salute to the Stars” fund-raiser benefiting the Peninsula Volunteers this Saturday.

The event, scheduled at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, will feature an 11 a.m. celebrity fashion show, followed by an auction and luncheon. The evening gala featuring Russell begins at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for the morning fashion show and luncheon are $75-125, while tickets for the dinner gala are $150-1,000.

The Peninsula Volunteers is a non-profit organization providing services for older adults. The group prepares more than 170,000 meals annually for Meals on Wheels, Rosener House and Little House. Proceeds from the fund-raiser will be used to replace an aging kitchen. For more information, call 326-0665 or visit www.peninsulavolunteers.org.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
