The Los Altos-Mountain View District of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors will honor Judy Van Dyck of Los Altos with their 38th annual Community Service Award at a luncheon Tuesday at Michael’s at Shoreline.

The award, established in 1964, expresses appreciation for the many unsung volunteers in the local community.

“Judy is always willing to help out whenever she hears of a need or a new area where she can use her talents and be of service,” said Lois Lepesh, one of Van Dyck’s many nominators.

“She is definitely an asset to our community.”

As a cancer survivor and registered nurse, Van Dyck continuously reaches out to women facing breast cancer surgery and also cares for patients with terminal illnesses.

Van Dyck has given more than 12,000 hours of service to El Camino Hospital, serving as president of the El Camino Hospital Auxiliary and organizing the information program for Breast Cancer Awareness Week the past two years.

She is active in St. Simon’s parish working on fund raising, outreach, hospitality and serving as Women’s Club president.

“The Los Altos-Mountain View district of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors proudly continues this tradition by honoring people who best contribute in a meaningful way to the quality, spirit and character of our community,” said Lissi Bedford, chairwoman of the 2001 award committee.

The Silicon Valley Association of Realtors is a 3,000 member real estate trade association and homeowner advocacy group serving Silicon Valley and the mid-Peninsula.

The public is invited to attend the luncheon scheduled 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Michael’s at Shoreline Restaurant, 2960 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View. Lunch is $25 per person; reservations may be made through Friday.

For information or reservations, call Christine Moore, 949-9115.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
