By International School hosts gala

The International School of the Peninsula Annual Gala fund-raiser “Spirit of the West” is scheduled at 6 p.m., Sunday, at Menlo Circus Club.

Tickets are $75. Prize drawing tickets are $75. Guests are asked to dress in Western themed costumes. For more information call, 251-8522.

Annual Jr. Olympics competition

The 48th annual Los Altos Elementary School District Junior Olympics is scheduled 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, at Los Altos High School.

More than 1,300 students from the six Los Altos elementary schools will compete in 10 track and field events.

National Teacher Day celebrated

The 16th annual National Teacher Day will be celebrated May 8. Parents, students, and businesses are encouraged to show teachers they are honored and valued.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
