The following five groups will present information about their programs during the Resource Faire at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, in the multipurpose room at the Los Altos Senior Center, 97 Hillview Ave.

In addition, blood pressure checks will be available for the seniors attending the event. The featured senior programs are:

Older Adult Resource Center

The Older Adult Resource Center is designed to help seniors enjoy a more comfortable life and enable caregivers to maintain the quality of their own lives and the lives of their family members.

Senior Adult Legal Assistance

Provides free assistance in filling out durable power of attorney for health-care forms, witnessing of signatures and filing directives with physicians and hospitals.

Council on Aging

The Council on Aging Services for seniors is a private non-profit (501C), organization which has been providing services for citizens over the age of 60 since 1966.

While most elders age well and never require these services, many will need help at some point.

Community Services Agency

The Community Services Agency of Mountain View has developed programs such as Senior Case Management designed to assess the living conditions of elderly families to make sure they are safe.

HICAP health insurance counseling

If you have questions or concerns regarding Medicare, supplemental policies, long-term care insurance, HMO claims and billing, or want more information about your health-care rights, HICAP can assist you. HICAP is a non-profit, volunteer based program designed to assist seniors with insurance issues.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
