Brass players are invited to the California Youth Symphony’s Brass Day, starting at noon, Saturday, in music wing of Lynbrook High School, 1280 Johnson Ave., San Jose.

Brass director Peter Nowlen has planned master classes with guest clinicians on each instrument, a massed brass choir reading session, trumpet choir, horn choir and low brass choir reading sessions.

Participation in the Brass Day classes is $5 for students; $8 for adults.

A highlight of the program will be the clinic with featured guest and renowned trumpeter David Burkhart, who teaches at San Francisco Conservatory.

The day will conclude with a free concert for Brass Day participants and the public at 4:30 p.m., featuring the California Brass Quintet, the California State University-Sacramento Horn Ensemble and the CYS Brass Ensemble.

Los Altos Hills resident Andrew Chan, a member of the Brass Ensemble and the CYS, will be participating in the program.

Burkhart’s cornet solo performance of Adolphe Sachse’s “Concertino in E flat” will feature accompaniment by the California Brass and the CYS Brass ensembles.

Also on the program are works by Handel, Elliot del Borgo and Eric Ewazen.
