“ONE OF THE BEST” SMALL MUSEUMS: The grand opening on March 18 of the modern barn-look three-level 8,200-square-foot Los Altos History Museum was an incredible and special day to remember. This Silicon Valley history museum is one of the best small museums in the state of California. So many wonderful stories have been written about this “one of its kind” museum. It was remarkably put together by a team of 50 devoted and hard working people. Visit the museum for a special treat! It is open to the public Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call 948-4042.
AN ACADEMY AWARDS PARTY: The fifth annual Academy Awards party was hosted by Jan and Phil Myers of Los Altos. Jan, a local artist (painted murals throughout Los Altos), hand delivered unique invitations, written in gold ink on a black strip enclosed in film containers. Marilou and Gary Thomas came up with the idea of this party which includes five couples, all cinemaphiles, doing a rotating potluck party and a contest to see who could guess the most categories correctly. For the second year, Jan won! Marilou had cookie cutters designed in the shape of Oscar, creating delicious cookies which the guests munched while watching the show. Margot and Barry Gordon’s contribution to the dinner was a selection of their son’s Gordon Biersch beer to go with sushi appetizers.
FlREFlGHTERS ON OPRAH: Remember the story on the El Monte fire station’s yoga class? Oprah Winfrey asked the team to videotape footage on the “life of the firefighters” including the yoga class, a code 3 call and going down the pole. Yoga teacher and firefighter Debbie Purdue and her team, Fire Captain Bob Hagg, Ron Prioste and Tom Alarcon were on TV April 6.
Tom’s voice was taped for the background voice-over. The team just found out that it would air last Friday. Wonder if they have reruns?
“THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME”: From the moment they arrived at the Crowne Plaza Cabana March 23 for the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), “There’s No Place Like Home,” spring benefit for arts education, the nearly 400 supporters and guests were excited to be a part of this wonderful evening!
The theme “there’s no place like home” was chosen by the committee since CSMA will soon have a home. When Dorothy clicked her ruby red slippers in the Wizard of Oz, she found her way home.
The event was very successful with a variety of donated silent auction items.
The three chairwomen, Lisa Lane Kasperzak, Linda Lum and Eppie Lam and their committee did a superb job!
Congratulations on raising $60,000 on the event! Board Chairman Robert Reay and Danny Scher (formerly of Shoreline) were co-hosts for the evening.
Los Altos and Los Altos Hills supporters who enjoyed the event were Penny and Roger Brunello, Gay and William Krause, Sue and Robert Larson, Don and Sid Hubbard, Marion and Bob Grimm, Marge and Mike Bruno, Ginny and Mayor King Lear, Jane and John Reed, Penny and Roy Lave, Pat and Walt Joyce, Gory Cleary, Alice and Dr. John Davis, Ernest Litthauer, Moon and Yoon Choo, Penny and Dr. Arnold Oronsky, Mady Kahn, Le and Will Corkern, Mary and Gene Van Tamlen, and Elayne and Phil Dauber and many more.
