Executive chef John Emil Sola and chef De Cuisine Matthew Gentry will prepare the meal.

The dinner is scheduled for 7:15 p.m., April 27. Space is limited and reservations and pre-payment are required.

Wine fund-raiser to feature 44 wineries

The Santa Cruz Mountains Wine Growers’ Association will host “Wine for the Heart” May 4 and May 6.

The fund-raiser will include a Friday night dinner at Thomas Fogarty Winery, a silent and live auction and a Sunday wine tasting. This is the only event to feature all of the Santa Cruz association’s wineries. Page Mill Winery in Los Altos Hills, Bonny Doon, Ridge and Fogarty are among the participants.

The event, which raised $87,000 last year, benefits the American Heart Association and Vascular Research at Stanford. For more information, call 831-479-WINE.

Santa Cruz vintner’s festival

The Santa Cruz Mountains Wine Growers’ Association will hold its annual Vintner’s Festival June 2 and 3 in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and June 9 and 10 in Santa Cruz County.

The event will feature dozens of the area’s vintage creations as wineries and restaurants offer food, music, barrel samples, tours and wine tastings.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet winemakers, owners and workers from various wineries, including Page Mill in Los Altos Hills.

Pearl Alley Bistro in Santa Cruz, Theo’s Restaurant in Soquel and the Hilton in San Jose will participate. Guests may also bring their own picnics to participating wineries.

Tickets are $20 per person. For more information, call 831-479-WINE.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
