The Palo Alto Tomahawks - a lacrosse club with players from Los Altos, Mountain View, Gunn and Homestead highs - had a strong showing at the annual Golden Gate Lacrosse Tournament, held March 17-18 at Stanford University.
Considered the premier event for high school lacrosse in Northern California, the tournament featured 16 boys and four girls varsity teams from throughout California, plus squads from Washington, Oregon, Texas, Canada and Japan.
The Tomahawks’ boys team won all three of its matches the first day, beating Menlo School, Novato Lacrosse Club and Adanac from British Columbia, Canada.
The Tomahawks played well on offense and defense, getting strong individual efforts from brothers Drew and Greg Barnekoff and fellow Los Altos High students Peter Hahn and Chris Serviss, along with Mountain View High’s Taylor Schofield.
The next day, the Tomahawks lost their first game in the winners’ bracket by one point to a team from Victoria, Canada, that went on to the finals.
A team from Keio, Japan, won the championship.
