By Gunmen kill security guard

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office was continuing its search last week for three gunmen who shot and killed a jewelry store security guard March 13 in Cupertino.

Police said three suspects, armed with assault-type weapons and wearing masks, allegedly fired a single shot at Josefino Cambosa while robbing Jade Galore Jewelry Store on Wolfe Road, where the security guard worked.

Witnesses told police that the suspects ordered employees at gunpoint to get down. Cambosa, 54, was inside the store at the time of the robbery. He died at Valley Medical Center.

The three gunmen fled the store before police arrived.

Anyone with information about the robbery should call sheriff’s office investigators at (408) 299-2211.

City beefs up park maintenance

The Los Altos City Council agreed last week to add another position to its Public Works staff dedicated to the maintenance of city parks. A recent survey of the city’s 11 parks indicated that several of the sites needed more maintenance, including painting, bench repairs, sign replacements and vandalism clean up.

The city plans to increase its user fees to fund the new position, according to the council.
