By Carriage rides throughout holidays

The Los Altos Village Association is sponsoring one-half hour carriage rides around the downtown this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The carriages can comfortably seat four-to-six adults passengers.

They meet modern safety requirements and offer a convertible top and heating to provide comfort, no matter what the weather.

A greeting table and loading zone at the Community Plaza, State and Main streets, will provide service for riders.

The cost is $50 pre-paid by Visa or Mastercard. Call the Village Association for reservations at 949-5282.

Santa sets up shop at Rancho

Santa Claus is putting in daily appearances at Rancho Shopping Center in Los Altos through Christmas Eve.

Santa will be at the center from noon to 4 p.m.

The shopping center is located at the corner of Foothill Expressway and Springer Road.

For more information, call 948-1455.

Holiday banners

Hand-crafted holiday banners decorate the lampposts throughout downtown Los Altos during the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The banners were made by volunteer Los Altos merchants, and the ones for First, Second, Third and Fourth streets were underwritten by a grant from the Packard Foundation.

Caroling along the pathways

Residents of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills are invited to join the Los Altos Hills Pathway Committee for the first pathway caroling event, scheduled for 7:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday.

Meet at the Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, for hot cider and a short practice before caroling for homes around Town Hall. Bring a flashlight and warm clothes.

Kids and families are welcome.

For more information, call Scott Vanderlip at 948-6455.

Holiday concert at Linden Tree

Pam Donkin and Greta Pedersen of Magical Music Express will perform their annual Holiday Concert at the Linden Tree inner courtyard at 11 a.m., today.

This lively family sing-along will include songs for Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa.

Magical Music Express has recently licensed music from their recordings to Enchantment Entertainment for a new product line of personalized music videos.

Their “Music Is Magic” video is broadcast on the Learning Channel and they have appeared on national radio and television, including Pickleberry Pie and Romper Room.

For more information, call Pam Donkin, 873-1990, or Dennis Ronberg, co-owner of Linden Tree, at 949-3390.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

For the first time in five years, a public elementary school, Gardner Bullis, opened its doors last week in Los Altos Hills. For some, it was, metaphorically speaking, the last stitch removed from the old wound following the closure of the original Bullis-Purissima School in 2003.

For others, including the diehards who formed the successful Bullis Charter School, the sting of the Bullis closure lingers. But our sense is that for most Hills residents not part of the Loyola School coverage area, the opening of Gardner Bullis means the resurrection of a long-sought-after neighborhood school and the community benefits that come with it.
