Dec. 13: 9:30 a.m., board of directors meeting.

Dec. 8: 1 p.m., birthday bingo. Celebrate December birthdays with cake, ice cream, music and free bingo.

Dec. 9: 9:45 a.m., Older Women’s League, the voice of midlife and older women invites Los Altos seniors to hear a guest speaker talk about what can be done about chromic pulmonary disease. The meeting will be held in the Community Room at Cypress Gardens Housing Complex, 3555 Judro Way, San Jose. For more information, call (408) 266-8843.

Dec. 15: noon, holiday luncheon featuring a Cornish hen with all the fixings. Reservations are required. Cost is $3 for members, $6 for guests. Each purchased ticket receives one free raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are $2 each.

Notes: Memberships are due. Cost is $12 a year if your zip code is 94022, 94023 or 94024. All other zip codes are $17 per year. “Spotlight,” the Los Altos Senior Center monthly newsletter, can be mailed for $3 per year, not included in the annual membership fee.

AARP Tax-Aide program is looking for volunteers to assist with tax preparation for the 2000 income tax season. Volunteers receive comprehensive training to help low- and middle-income people, with special attention to those age 60 and over.

The Los Altos Senior Center will close Dec. 15 and reopen Jan. 2.

Mountain View Senior Center

The Los Altos Senior Center is located in the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call 948-7483.

The Mountain View Senior Center is located at 266 Escuela Ave. For more information, call 903-6330.

Following is a list of special events for the month:

Thursday: 8:30-11:30 a.m., flu shots will be available. Cost is $5. Exact change will be required. The service is provided by the Santa Clara County Health Department. Appointments are not necessary.

Friday: 12:30 p.m., “Designing Web Pages” workshop. Learn how to design your own Web page. Volunteer Monica Lipscomb will help interested participants learn the basics. Space is limited.

Sunday: 2 p.m., dance Sunday. Get into the holiday spirit with Mike Johnson and his Sound Wizards. Refreshments provided. Admission is $3.

Dec. 13: 10:30 a.m., holiday reception, featuring the live music of Bob Jensen, refreshments, dancing and a visit with Santa.

Dec. 17: 2 p.m., movie, “Music of the Heart,” starring Meryl Streep, Angela Bassett and Gloria Estefan, will be shown. Admission is 50 cents. Refreshments will be served.

Dec. 19: 11:15 a.m., newcomers group welcomes first-timers to Mountain View Senior Center with an orientation and tour of the center, including an overview of classes and upcoming events.

Dec. 31: 1-4 p.m., New Year’s Eve bash, featuring food, music and entertainment. “The Bigger Than Life Band” will perform for dancing. Advance tickets are $5, $8 at the door.
