Shari Bauman and Vinnie Grande were married Sept. 10 at the Mark Hopkins Hotel, San Francisco.

The bride is the daughter of Ina and Steve Bauman of Los Altos. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and is employed at Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals.

The groom is the son of Patricia Grande of Palo Alto, and the late Vincent Grande. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis. He is employed at Gordon Biersch, San Jose.

The couple lives in San Francisco.

Desmond, Shine

Denise Desmond and Bill Shine were married Sept. 23 at the Fairwinds Estate, Lake Tahoe.

The bride attended Santa Clara University and is employed with the Alza Corporation.

The groom is the son of Joan and Bill Shine of Mountain View. He graduated from Los Altos High School and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette. He is a tennis coach at Menlo School, Atherton.

The couple lives in Mountain View.

For the first time in five years, a public elementary school, Gardner Bullis, opened its doors last week in Los Altos Hills. For some, it was, metaphorically speaking, the last stitch removed from the old wound following the closure of the original Bullis-Purissima School in 2003.

For others, including the diehards who formed the successful Bullis Charter School, the sting of the Bullis closure lingers. But our sense is that for most Hills residents not part of the Loyola School coverage area, the opening of Gardner Bullis means the resurrection of a long-sought-after neighborhood school and the community benefits that come with it.
