By Oak Literacy Festival scheduled

Oak School has scheduled a Literacy Festival Nov. 28 through Dec. 1. Scholastic books for all ages and computer software will be available for purchase. The proceeds will allow the school library to add videos and books to its Science and Social Studies collection for all grade levels.

Oak School is located at 1501 Oak Ave. in Los Altos. Festival hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Nov. 28; 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Nov. 29; 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Nov. 30, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 1.

Discussion of students’ test results

The Community Advisory Council of Los Altos High School has scheduled a discussion, “The Testing Maze and What We Can Learn from it,” 7:30-9 p.m., Nov. 30, in the Band Room.

Brigitte Sarraf, Associate Superintendent for Education and Curriculum of the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, will offer a comparative look at Los Altos High School students’ results on STAR, SAT, SATII and AP testing.

Education Job Fair at county office

The Santa Clara County Office of Education (COE) has scheduled an Education Job Fair 9 a.m. to noon, Dec. 2, for teachers and support staff for the County’s special education, alternative school and children’s services programs.

The COE has openings for teachers, teacher aides and assistants, occupational and physical therapists, communication language specialists, interpreters and tutors for the deaf/hard of hearing, administrative and clerical assistants and seminar assistants for professional development programs.

The COE is located at 1290 Ridder Park Drive off Brokaw Road near 880 in San Jose.

CUSD appoints Cheng to vacant board position

The Cupertino Union School District Board of Education unanimously appointed Pearl Cheng to fill the seat vacated by Debbie Byron on the Board of Education.

Cheng’s term of office will expire on Dec. 1, 2001, the end of Byron’s term.

Within 30 days of the appointment, registered voters may petition for a special election to fill the vacancy. The petition must be filed with the County Superintendent of Schools. The appointment of the board shall become effective within 30 days of the date of the appointment if no such valid petition is filed.

Ceramics sale at Foothill

The Foothill College ceramics department is holding a winter holiday ceramics sale 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 28-30, in front of the Foothill College Bookstore on campus, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.
