By De Anza Job Fair open to community

De Anza College will provide a job fair for student and community job seekers, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., today and Thursday, in the Hinson Campus Center.

Fifty representatives from local business and industry will be on campus to collect resumés, discuss available positions and, in some cases, make job offers on the spot. A different set of companies will attend each day.

Mark Reed, coordinator of De Anza’s Career Center, said that the staff will be available to review students’ resumés before the event.

For more information, call (408) 864-5711; visit the interactive Web site at www.deanza.fhda.edu; or stop by the Career Center on campus.

Pumpkins are being sold 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., every day through Halloween, or until supplies run out.

For more information, call Patty Hurley at 949-1926.

HS Proficiency Exam dates set

The California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) is open to anyone 16 or older, whether enrolled in school or not. The State Board of Education will award a Certificate of Proficiency to those who pass the CHSPE. This certificate is equivalent by law to a high school diploma.

Registration forms, included in the “Information Bulletin,” must be received no later than Nov. 1. Registration fee is $50. The 3-hour test is scheduled Nov. 18 at Oak Grove High School and the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

Copies of the “Information Bulletin” with sample questions, test sites, registration form and mailing envelope are available at public and private high schools and all public libraries. CHSPE information is available on their Web site, www.chspe.com, or by calling (916) 383-9506.

Applications opened for CUSD Board

The Board of Education of the Cupertino Union School District will make a provisional appointment on or before Dec. 1 to fill the position on the board now held by Debbie Byron, who resigned effective Nov. 1.

Applicants must be 18 or older, a citizen of California, reside in the Cupertino Union School District and be a registered voter.

Application packets are available through Oct. 31, at the Office of the Superintendent, 10301 Vista Drive, Cupertino. For additional information, contact Beverly Armstrong, (408) 252-3000, ext. 323.

St. Francis radio station resumes broadcasting

KSFH Radio of St. Francis High School, 87.9 FM, returned to the air this month with a newly remodeled studio and broadcast system.

In operation since 1977, KSFH began broadcasting 24/7 last March, but went off the air during the summer to upgrade its broadcast systems. New computers from Cisco Systems, new office furniture from Hewlett-Packard and transmitter upgrades from 92 KSJO Radio, have made KSFH one of the top high school broadcasting facilities in the country.

KSFH’s award-winning Web site, www.ksfh.com, provides station information and online listening for the Los Altos, Mountain View and Palo Alto areas.
