St. Francis upped its WCAL record to 6-0 March 20 with a 189-196 win over rival Bellarmine (1-3) at Sharon Heights Country Club. Brothers Adam and Brett Sollers led the Lancers by each shooting an even-par 36.

With perennial Central Coast Section power Menlo School in its league, the Pinewood boys tennis team’s chances of winning the Private Schools Athletic League are as slim as Gwyneth Paltrow.

However, the Panthers certainly appear capable of finishing in the top half of the league.

Pinewood improved to 3-2 in the PSAL last Thursday with a 7-0 rout of visiting Redwood Christian.

The Panthers (5-6 overall) won all seven matches in straight sets, including Todd Schram’s 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

In SCVAL De Anza Division action last Thursday, Los Altos High maintained its second-place standing with a 6-1 win over host Saratoga .

“We’re doing pretty well this year,” said Eagles coach Cuong Duong, whose team improved to 6-1 in league and 8-2 overall. “We have a lot of depth.”

Another local team playing well is St. Francis High, which went to 5-1 in the West Catholic Athletic League and 9-2 overall with a 7-0 victory at Sacred Heart Cathedral last Thursday.

Los Altos beat host Monta Vista in an SCVAL De Anza Division meet last Friday, with the boys posting a 99-87 win and the girls a 98-87 victory.

Double winners for Los Altos included Joey Dunn (50-meter freestyle, 100 butterfly) for the boys and Shannon Sandlin (200 free, 100 backstroke) and Tina Tkalcevic (500 free, 100 breaststroke) for the girls.
