Egan Intermediate School of Los Altos recently claimed three Valley Junior High School Athletic League championships.

The seventh- and eighth-grade girls volleyball teams won their respective league finals, as did the eighth-grade boys basketball team.

The seventh-graders defeated cross-town rival Blach Junior High in girls volleyball, winning three out of four games.

The Vikings advanced to the championship by beating Miller in the semifinals and ended the year with a 9-2 record.

Egan’s eighth-grade girls also won in four games in their title match against Columbia. The victory avenged the Vikings’ loss to Columbia in the seventh-grade final a year ago.

Egan went undefeated this season (11-0) and suffered only two losses over the two years (20-2).

In boys basketball, Egan captured the league championship with a 47-46 overtime win against Miller.

Shawn Girouard played a key role in the win with his work inside and tallied 17 points. Jonathan Chang made a pair of key three-pointers during the third quarter. Andrew Barreto, Joe Chay and Dacks Milliken provided ball control and rebounding inside.

The Vikings came into the tournament as the third seed and qualified for the championship by topping Hyde 61-49 and Cupertino 51-48. During the regular season, Egan lost to Cupertino in overtime.

The Vikings finished with a 10-2 record.
