The intersection of Second and Whitney streets in downtown Los Altos is closed for approximately one month for sidewalk and intersection improvements tied to construction of the new David and Lucile Packard Foundation building.

Metta Institute founder Frank Ostaseki has scheduled a public workshop, “Caring for the Dying,” 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kannon Do Zen Meditation Center, 1972 Rock St., Mountain View.

Ostaseski, a leading voice in contemplative end-of-life care and founder of the Zen Hospice, will lead the workshop, which organizers said would present a mindful and compassionate approach to addressing the practical, emotional and spiritual issues inherent in caring for people who are dying.

The 2012 Bay Area Schools Environmental Conference named Los Altos High School an Outstanding School for its efforts to create a greener, more sustainable and healthier place to study and work via green community service, green fundraising and raising green awareness.

Representatives of the school will accept the award at a Green Star Awards ceremony scheduled Saturday in San Jose.

A couple of weeks ago, Tim Tebow had a good day. Tebow, quarterback of the Denver Broncos, is a very committed Christian. The Bible verse John 3:16 has become identified with him. When the Broncos played the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tebow threw for 316 yards. He also completed 10 passes in the game, giving him an average of 31.6 yards per pass completed. Even non-Christians had to be impressed.

John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but might have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

“Without a doubt, North Lake Tahoe is a dog town,” said tourism director Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association.
